How to experience Varanasi – The Spiritual Hub of India

This article is based on my unforgettable experience in Varanasi, in which I have summarized my knowledge and tried to suggest a Varanasi itinerary for one day. It is best suited for first-time tourists.

Wherever you are coming from, try to get down at Varanasi Junction Railway Station (BSB). If this is not possible, get down at Varanasi City Railway Station (BCY), the other railway station of Kashi. This will make it easy and convenient for you to reach most of the attractions. Because Varanasi Junction Railway Station (BSB) is the nearest station to reach Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The distance between the two is about 4.4 km if you travel via Sant Kabir Road, which is the shortest route.

Tourist Attractions in Varanasi

First of all take a bath and then visit Kal Bhairav Temple in the cool morning atmosphere and then go to visit Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple. After visiting both these places, start your further journey to Kashi. Follow the plan and route suggested below to see as many places as possible in the shortest time. Keep moving sequentially, you will also find many other famous places in between.

1. Kaal Bhairava Temple

Kala Bhairava Temple is one of the oldest Shiva temples in Varanasi, dedicated to Bhairava (Kaal Bhairava), a fierce form of Shiva. He is depicted wearing a garland of skulls and carrying a mace of peacock feathers. The word “Kaal” means both “death” and “time”, and Kala Bhairava is believed to dispel the fear of both. It is believed that even death is afraid of Kala Bhairava.

2. Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple

After visiting the Kal Bhairav temple, do visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple. 4. Boat Rides on the Ganges

Don’t forget to take a boat ride from Assi Ghat or Dashashwamedh Ghat during your Varanasi itinerary for one day. This activity offers a unique view of the various ghats. Through this you can see pilgrims performing rituals. It also provides a great opportunity to see the mix of new and old architecture of the city from outside. Although the best time to take a boat ride on the Ganges in Banaras is at sunrise, but if you have less time and limited energy then evening time is also not bad.

Ghats: Boat rides provide an excellent view of the ghats, including Assi Ghat, Dashashwamedh Ghat, and Manikarnika Ghat.
Duration: Boat rides can last from 2-3 hours.

5. Dashashwamedh Ghat & Ganga Aarti (Evening)
